Swim Spa Electrical & Delivery Prep
Power requirements, the electrician’s role, access for delivery, and craning — what to sort out before delivery day.

Delivery day should be exciting, not stressful. The two things that most often derail it are electrical that isn't ready and access that wasn't measured. Both are entirely preventable with a little planning. Here's what to sort out before your swim spa arrives.
Electrical: do this early
Swim spas generally require a dedicated, hard-wired circuit at a higher amperage than a standard outlet, typically protected by a GFCI breaker and installed by a licensed electrician to code. Models with dual pumps or dual heaters may need more capacity. Some smaller units offer a lower-amp or "plug-and-play" option, but full-size swim spas usually need a substantial dedicated supply.
Get the spec, then schedule the electrician
Ask the manufacturer for the exact electrical requirement for your model before delivery, and book a licensed electrician to have it ready. Electrical that isn't done means a spa you can't run — sometimes for days or weeks while you wait for an appointment and inspection.
Delivery and access: measure everything
A swim spa is long, heavy, and unwieldy. Before delivery, walk the entire route from the street to the pad and measure:
- Width of gates, paths, and the narrowest pinch points.
- Corners the unit must turn (length matters here, not just width).
- Overhead obstructions — wires, eaves, branches.
- Slope and ground conditions along the route.
If the route is tight — as it often is for backyards — the spa may need to be craned over the house or fence. Craning adds cost and requires clear overhead space and a staging area for the crane, so arrange it in advance.
| Prep item | Who handles it | When |
|---|---|---|
| Electrical circuit | Licensed electrician | Before delivery |
| Foundation / pad | Contractor (to maker's spec) | Before delivery |
| Route measurement | You + dealer | Before purchase ideally |
| Crane (if needed) | Dealer / crane service | Scheduled with delivery |
Have the foundation ready
The pad or structure must be built, cured, and level before delivery. A spa can't be placed on a foundation that isn't ready, and rescheduling a delivery (and possibly a crane) is expensive.
Confirm an all-in delivery plan
Ask the dealer to confirm in writing what delivery includes, whether craning is required for your site, and what you're responsible for. Pair this with the placement decision so everything lines up.
