Owning a swim spa is easy once you have a rhythm. This is that rhythm — a simple weekly, monthly, and seasonal checklist that keeps the water clean, the equipment healthy, and the running cost low. Print it, stick it near the spa, and most problems never start.

Weekly

  • Test the water — sanitizer and pH, a few times a week; adjust to target.
  • Add sanitizer to maintain a safe residual (water care basics).
  • Skim and wipe the waterline and surface; remove debris.
  • Glance at the equipment — listen for new noises, look for drips or error codes.
  • Confirm the cover seals well and is in good shape.

Monthly

  • Rinse the filter(s) thoroughly; replace on schedule.
  • Test alkalinity and calcium hardness, not just pH and sanitizer.
  • Shock the water if usage has been heavy or clarity dips.
  • Inspect the cover for waterlogging or damage — a tired cover quietly raises running cost.
  • Wipe jets and check for any reduced flow or unusual sounds from pumps.

Seasonally (every few months)

  • Drain and refill the water per the manufacturer's interval.
  • Deep-clean or replace filters.
  • Clean the shell while empty, following the maker's guidance.
  • Inspect plumbing fittings and the cabinet for leaks, wear, or pests.
  • Review settings for the season — temperature, filtration cycles, and cold-weather preparation.

A framework — follow your model's specific schedule and adjust to how much you use it.

Two habits that prevent most problems

Keep a quality cover in good condition, and test the water regularly rather than waiting until it looks off. Those two habits prevent the majority of swim spa headaches and keep energy costs down.

Know your wear items

Covers, filters, and salt cells wear out; pumps and heaters eventually need service. Budget for these so they're planned replacements, not emergencies — and understand what your warranty covers when they fail.
